The Ibo tribe has been dated back to 4000 BCE and evidence backing up this statement has been found. Pottery belonging to their tribe is still being resurfaced to this day. They had originated from the African Great Lakes and the Mountains of the Moon.
Nigeria gained independence on October 1st, 1960. Difficulties arose trying to unify the nation which consisted of more than 250 ethnic and linguistic groups.
The Ibos declared independence as the Republic of Biafra in 1967. Many conflicts arose after the independence gain. In 1966 the Muslim Hausa people massacred the eastern Christian Ibos. As a result of their new independence, civil war broke out. In 1970, the Rebuplic of Biafra surrenderes to the federal government. The war lasted for three years until the republic was brought back to Africa. The british has power over the Ibo tribe for quite some time and most would argue th at they still do. Because of this, the Ibo tribe is still perdominatley Christian.
